FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
1.1 Installation
Q1: Do I need to drill holes to install Vmaisi cabinet locks? Will it damage my cabinets?
A: No drilling is needed. Vmaisi uses strong 3M adhesive tape – no tools and no holes. When you need to remove it, warm the tape with a hairdryer and peel off gently; no residue left.
Q2: Where should I place the lock on my cabinet door?
A: First, test for metal interference. Put the lock in “locked” mode and move it around the inside of the door. If the lock suddenly pops open (unlocks), that spot has hidden metal – move to another spot. Once you find a safe spot, clean and stick the lock. Then bring the magnetic key near the lock – if it snaps towards the lock, the position works.
Q3: Can Vmaisi locks work on IKEA cabinets?
A: Some IKEA cabinets have limited vertical space or internal structures that may prevent proper installation. Check that there is enough flat surface inside the door to mount the lock base before purchasing.
Q4: Does Vmaisi only use adhesive? Are screws included?
A: Most Vmaisi kits include both 3M adhesive and screws. If your cabinet allows small pilot holes, you can use screws for a more permanent mount.
Q5: What if my child pulls on the lock within 24 hours – will it fall off?
A: Yes, this is a common caution. After sticking the lock, let the adhesive cure for at least 24 hours. Avoid heavy pulling or stress during that time. After curing, the bond reaches its maximum strength.
Q6: My cabinet door is thicker than 2 inches – will Vmaisi work?
A: Vmaisi locks are designed for doors up to 2 inches (5 cm) thick. If your door is thicker, the magnetic pull may not be strong enough. Please check our specifications or contact us for advice.
1.2 Usage & Function
Q7: How do I use the magnetic key?
A: Simply hold the key near the lock’s location on the outside of the door and swipe gently. The lock tongue retracts and you can open the door. No insertion or turning required.
Q8: I lost my magnetic key. Can I get a replacement?
A: You can use any strong magnet about 1 inch in diameter to open Vmaisi locks. But we recommend keeping the included key in its holder attached near the cabinets (e.g., inside a pantry door or on the fridge side) so you never lose it.
Q9: How strong is the lock? Can it keep out pets (cats/dogs)?
A: Vmaisi locks are tested to resist toddlers and even strong pets. Customers have reported that the lock can stop a 30‑lb (13.6 kg) dog from opening cabinets.
Q10: Can Vmaisi be installed on all types of cabinets and drawers?
A: Vmaisi works on most kitchen, bathroom, storage, and bedroom cabinets and drawers. However, if the inside of the door has metal brackets, screws, or irregular structures, the lock tongue may not engage properly. Always perform the metal interference test before sticking.
1.3 Troubleshooting
Q11: Why doesn’t the lock open when I use the magnetic key?
A: Common reasons: weak magnet (using a non‑original key) or a stuck lock tongue. Make sure you are using the original Vmaisi key. Then check if anything is blocking the lock tongue. If it still doesn’t work, please use the form below to send us a short video – we will reply within one business day.
Q12: What is “metal interference” and how do I test for it?
A: Hidden iron screws or nails inside the cabinet door can interfere with the magnetic mechanism. Before sticking, put the lock in locked mode and move it around the door. If it pops open by itself, that spot has metal interference – choose a different spot.
